Ahmad Djuhara passed away on the 27 of March 2020. He is renowned as the Chairman of the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI). The architect was at the Infection Disease Hospital (RSPI) during the time of his death last Friday.
The IAI officialised the news of his death with a statement. The cause of his death is unknown, but the news of his death only enhances the severity of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
About Ahmad Djuhara
Ahmad Djuhara was born in November of 1966 in Jakarta, Indonesia. He studied in Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung, Indonesia. He majored in architecture, graduating in 1992.
While studying, Djuhara met his future wife, Wendy Djuhara with whom he went on to have two children. Ahmad Djuhara and Wendy Djuhara also founded Djuhara + Djuhara. It is an architectural firm through which they became the voice of architecture and design throughout the country of Indonesia.
Ahmad Djuhara began his career as an architect by working for a foreign firm based in Indonesia. But soon, he has to quit this job because of a financial crisis that had taken the country by shock.
Djuhara is well-known for his work on the Sugiharto Steel House, which established him as a brilliant architect. He was also dubbed as the “low-cost steel house warrior.” This is because of his work on a series of steel construction houses that made him known to be a specialist in affordable residential buildings.
Committees and Awards
All of his commendable works have been magnified with his contributions to the community. He enthusiastically took part in the Young Indonesian Architects Forum (AMI). It is a forum set up by Djuhara’s friends that coordinated discussions, exhibitions and book publications.
From 1992 to 1998, he worked at Pacific Adhika Internusa (PAI). He served as the Vice-Coordinator for the modern Asian Architecture Network in 2005. Djuhara was the Chairman of the Jakarta chapter of IAI from 2006 to 2009. The architect was also the President from 2015 to 2018, returning for a second term in 2018.
Djuhara received an IAI Award for Sugiharto Steel House in 2002 and Wisnu House in 2008. The Djuhara’s got an IAI Award for Shining Stars Kindergarten and Tanah Teduh House.
