The University of Minnesota’s (UMN) School of Architecture sees the appointment of a new Dean. Jennifer Yoos, an architect and educator have been appointed the Dean.

Blaine Brownell was the predecessor to Yoos. Brownell sees an appointment at the College of Arts + Architecture. He is the as the new director of the School of Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Apart from this new appointment as Dean, Yoos is the CEO and the principal of VJAA. VJAA is an architecture and design firm based in Minneapolis.

The irony is that Yoos herself was a student at the University of Minnesota. She is also part of the Architectural Association in London.

Yoos has a long list of achievements as an educator. She has taught students in the University of Arkansas, the Cooper Union, the University of Minnesota and the Washington University in St. Louis.

In 2002, Yoos was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University. This was as a part of the Urban and Environmental Studies department of Harvard Graduate School of Design. In 2013, she was a part of the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.

A statement from Yoos

Yoos expresses her gratitude to receive the honour of returning to the University. She is honoured to take up the position as the head of the School of Architecture. The new Dean speaks of her gratitude towards the school for providing her with a solid foundation for her career.

The Board of Regents of the school has given formal approval of Yoos’ selection as the dean. She is to begin at the university from 8 June 2020.
